Upload Baseline Photos
Upload baseline condition photos for each room. Learn what to photograph and why baselines protect both hosts and guests.
What are baseline photos
Baseline photos document the condition of each room before a guest arrives. They serve as the reference point for comparing check-in and checkout conditions. Every condition report includes them side by side with guest-submitted photos.
Why baselines matter
Baselines protect both parties:
- For hosts: If a guest causes damage, you have proof the room was in good condition before arrival.
- For guests: If something was already worn or damaged, the baseline shows it was there before they arrived.
- For disputes: Insurance companies and rental platforms accept timestamped photo evidence.
Uploading baseline photos
- Open the property page.
- Click the Photos tab (or Upload Photos from the stay page).
- Select a room from the list.
- Upload photos for that room.
- Repeat for each room.
What to photograph in each room
Aim to capture the full condition of the space:
- Walls — all four walls, including corners
- Floors — full coverage, especially high-traffic areas
- Furniture — top surfaces, legs, any visible wear
- Fixtures — light fixtures, switches, outlets
- Existing wear — scratches, stains, chips, discoloration
- Entry points — doors, doorframes, handles, locks
Do not hide existing damage. Photographing it honestly is what makes the baseline useful. If something is already scratched when you upload the baseline, that scratch will not be counted as guest damage.
How many photos per room
- Minimum: 4 photos (one per wall)
- Recommended: 8-12 photos per room
- Bathrooms and kitchens may need more to capture appliances and fixtures
Updating baselines
Update your baseline photos when:
- You replace or add furniture
- You repaint or renovate
- You notice significant wear changes between stays
- A damage dispute is resolved and the room's condition has changed
Older baselines are archived but still accessible in past reports.
Tips
- Use consistent angles across stays so photos are easy to compare.
- Make sure rooms are clean and well-lit before photographing.
- Upload baselines before sending the first check-in link for a property.
